Paid Graduate Internship – Project Officer

£6.08/hr, 20hrs/wk. Start date January 2012. Duration 3 months. Based in Saltcoats, Ayrshire.

Galloway Training in Saltcoats is looking for an enthusiastic graduate to work with its development team in the scoping and planning of a new project which aims to support young homeless people in North Ayrshire.  This is envisaged initially as a one stop shop for information and advice, leading eventually to wider service provision.

The project is in its development stage and the main tasks will be:
  • Liaison with local agencies, employers, young people and other stakeholders to assess needs and gather information
  • Liaison with young homeless people to inform the design of service solutions
  • Researching available resources and opportunities to build on these
  • Working with colleagues to fit service design to available resources
  • Working on marketing strategies to promote the service to partner agencies and potential service users.
The ideal candidate will have a background in a social sciences related discipline and some experience of research and/or community development.  Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential.  An understanding of current equality legislation and a commitment to an all inclusive and community led approach to social regeneration is also desired.

The Centre for Community Practice, Govanhill, Glasgow, is looking for an enthusiastic graduate with good research and communication skills who is committed to participatory community development.

The Centre for Community Practice works alongside Govanhill Baths Community Trust in the regeneration of Govanhill Baths as a Health and Wellbeing Centre.  In this role, you will assist the manager of the Centre for Community Practice in building up the research profile of the centre, and in social regeneration work.

Main duties will be:
  • The collection of research material relating to the social history of Govanhill Baths.
  • The enhancement of the centre's web-site and related social networking sites.
  • Engaging with community members in the research and implementation of community development.

The ideal candidate will have a background in an arts or social sciences related discipline and some experience of research and/or community development. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential. An understanding of current equality legislation and a commitment to an all inclusive and community led approach to social regeneration is also desired.
